Training and educational objectives for this post

  1. Gain good general paediatric inpatient experience, including emergencies and on call in a busy DGH.
  2. Ability to attend and partake in OPD clinics (with supervision)
  3. Accident and Emergency Paediatric experience Child Protection experience. Community Care and Home Nursing experience
  4. Partake in structured educational programme
    Participate in at least one high quality audit project.
  5. Study Leave.
  6. Enhance understanding of Clinical Governance, Risk management.

How these training and educational objectives will be achieved

  2. Attending designated general and specialty (eg Cardiac, dermatology, Neurology) OPD clinics

Activities are shared between postholders; the timing of some activities will vary between placements to ensure that each SHO / Trust Doctor gets appropriate experience and that the clinical work is covered.

Croydon University Hospital is a very busy Acute District General Hospital with 690 beds. The population of 335,600 approx has 25% ethnic mix, and 70,000 0 – 16 year olds. University ‘status’ was granted because of it’s close affiliation with local University Medical UndergraduateTeaching School ( Guys/King’s)

The hospital provides facilities for all major specialties. There is MRI, Cardiac Echo, CT Scanning etc available on site.

The Paediatric Department is part of the Family Care Division with Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

There is a 24 bed Children’s ward (Rupert) shared with Surgery and Orthopaedics.There are both Surgical (Dolphin) and Medical (KIM) Day Care Wards. The NNICU has 4 NIC cots and a 20 bedded HDU / SCBU. There is parent accomadation, teaching and play facilities for children.

The A/E Department has approx. 20,600 Paediatric attendances annually. A separated Paediatric Area is being built at present.

Paediatric Outpatients is mostly held in The Willows. There is a Paediatric phlebotomist, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and a Paediatric Dietician

3 – 5 Paediatric Medical students from St George’s and King’s Medical School are on continuous attachment.

There is resident middle Grade cover with Full Safety net.
